As you have seen, there is no simple
method or rubric for evaluating the impact of technology on
schools. There are tools, however, that can assist
your efforts to develop evaluation methods.
Dr. Larry Harris developed a chart to help in
the selection of exemplary programs that represent "Best Practices
in Using Technology for Instruction." This chart was used
to evaluate programs nominated from throughout the Southeast
for inclusion in the publication, Patterns of Promise.

Consider a technology initiative in your school or district
and use Harris's evaluation chart to perform an assessment.
In your opinion, how well does the initiative support the evaluation
standards and criteria presented in the form? What evidence do
you have to support your analysis? Now that you have done this
quick evaluation, how can you use this data to positively impact
future deployment of your technology integration efforts? Post
a brief summary of the technology initiative you selected and
what you learned from this informal evaluation. Include a brief
description of the major facets of the program and major outcomes
from the evaluation.
Consider using the evaluation chart as a starting point for future
technology initiatives and feel free to share it with individuals
or committees charged with developing and/or assessing technology-supported
programs.
