Activity: Monitoring Copyright
 |
Schools must comply with
copyright legislation, which changes almost yearly. The widespread
use of digital materials has complicated the legislation and
has propagated a number of myths and misunderstandings about
copyright. How do you know whether your staff is complying
with copyright legislation in their classroomswhether
those classrooms are actual physical spaces or online ones?
What advice can you offer them? |
Create a document to help your faculty and staff to find resources
to answer their copyright questions. Consider listing common myths
about the use of copyrighted materials in the classroom and the
facts. Begin with your district legal staff to see if they have
handouts, briefs, or Web-based information on copyright law. Contact
legal departments of local institutes at higher education or use
the Web to find copyright information specific to educators. Many
of the references in this module are a good start. Remember that
copyright issues change over time and encourage your staff to
monitor these changes periodically.
Post your findings to the discussion area for review.
