Activity: Rate Your School

Find out how your school rates on the Isolation/Integration Scale. Go to the "Technology as a Tool" section on the Principal Connections CD-ROM. This short diagnostic activity will help you assess integration practices in your own school or district. These 10 questions serve as the basis for the numerous strategies and resources in the remainder of the section two activities.

Getting There

  1. Insert and begin Principal Connections.
  2. From the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen, select the second icon on the left, the student desk. This will take you to the section titled "Technology as a Tool."
  3. Select the wooden statuette at the rear of the desk.
Follow-up the results of your scale by choosing the Report folder on the desk. In this folder are strategies you can implement in your own school or district to promote integration and reduce isolation. These strategies are displayed under tabs, with six tabs relating to integration and four tabs relating to access.

Choose a tab that corresponds to a question you answered negatively, or explore a tab that interests to you. Read the strategies and review the resources, then find at least one strategy that you could implement in your own school or district.

Post a message on the discussion area that supports your strategy selection decision. Which strategy did you choose and why did it appeal to you?

Read responses from your classmates and edit your discusssion message to respond with strategies and activities from your own experience that support their decisions or meet their needs to increase integration or decrease isolation. You must respond to at least one posting from a classmate.

Click the "Discussion" button on the top menu bar to view your response and the responses from other participants to this activity.
