The sample school technology plan includes an objective
to provide training and support for staff in the integration
of technology with an emphasis on improving student achievement in
English, science, and social studies. As the school technology
committee chairperson reported, "The needs assessments
indicated that teachers were not using the available software
as a tool for supporting instruction. We really felt that
if we could make better use of the our technology in the
classroom we could improve our student achievement."
The faculty decided that on-site professional development in the use of the
available software was needed. In addition to the initial
training, plans were made to follow up with classroom
activities designed to help teachers apply their learning.
"I wanted to provide as much assistance as needed to ensure
that the software and training were being implemented in
the classroom. In order to monitor implementation and identify
faculty who need additional training and assistance, I will
be looking for the integration of technology, and specifically
the use of the software from the training, as I look at
lesson plans and do classroom observations," reported the
school principal.
To meet this objective, a staff development
plan was developed that took into consideration the diverse
levels of technology skills of the faculty and the limited
staff development funds available.
