Activity: Did it work?

Schools feel pressure to demonstrate accountability, and much of that falls on the building principal. Assessing impact is a broad topic and receives greater detail in a different module. This activity touches briefly on assessing the impact of professional development.

How do you know it works? There are more ways to measure impact than scores on a standardized achievement test. A variety of methods and data can be utilized to demonstrate how well professional development activities support goals and objectives. Plan and budget for data collection; however, be open to learning from experience, which can provide valuable insight.

Share some of your experiences with collecting evaluation data related to professional development by posting the the discussion area. What kind of data were most useful to you? How did you get them? Were there any types of data you had not originally considered that helped to evaluate your professional development efforts or possibly impacted the design and delivery of later activities?
