What is the need? Goals/objectives from technology plan

A review of the technology needs assessment by the technology committee in relation to the data on student achievement found that teachers were not using software purchased instruction—in English, science, and social studies. Survey results indicate lack of expertise in the use of the software packages. Staff development is needed in the use of these software applications and how to integrate them into the core curriculum areas.

What is your strategy to meet this need? Describe professional development activities

Teachers will be provided with on-site staff development in the use of the identified software packages. Teachers will be provided a stipend to participate in two (2) three (3) hour after school workshops. Trainers from the community college technology division will provide the training. Prior to the workshop teachers will take an informal technology skills inventory. Teachers will be grouped for workshop activities according to their skill level.

Describe the entry-level technology skills necessary for the activity/ies.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows environment
  • Basic keyboard facility
  • Internet search skills
  • Advanced applications will require use of scanner and digital camera
Describe the number and technology skill level of projected participants. Thirty-three (33) staff members will participate in the training. An informal survey indicated the participants fall into the following categories:
  • Ten (10) staff are at a basic level (basic knowledge of Windows environment and keyboarding)
  • Fifteen (15) staff are at an intermediate level (also possess Internet search skills)
  • Eight (8) staff are at an advanced level (also possess experience with scanner and digital camera)

How will you support and follow up this activity? Describe support during and after activities as well as follow-up activities

Classroom follow up to the initial workshop will include a peer support system. Peer partners will observe each other and share their use of the technology skills. Follow-up sessions with the trainers will be offered based on needs identified through the peer support program.
