Lesson Review
In this lesson, you have learned why reliable technology support
is critical to your technology plan. You are prepared to hire a
qualified technology coordinator who will also be a good fit for
your school or district. You are aware of the costs associated with
maintaining and replacing your hardware, software, and networks
and have considered alternate strategies to provide support such
as outsourcing, leasing, or involving students in your support plan.
Although consistent maintenance and upkeep of computers, peripherals
and networks is crucial for effective technology integration, you know continual
efforts must also be made to support the people working with the
technology. Teachers and staff must be granted sufficient time and
convenient access to equipment to learn to utilize new technology.
Learning curves may be accelerated with on-site support that gives
immediate answers to questions, solves problems, and models the appropriate
use of new software in its intended context. Finally, reward
systems and new assessment models need to be implemented to support
professional development.
