The National Educational Technology Goals
The new demands on schools require rethinking the processes of
teaching and learning. In response to developments in information
technology, the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational
Technology revised the national technology goals first presented
in 1996. The revision process involved some of the
leading experts in education, technology, and policy from across
the nation. The five revised goals were presented December 15, 2000,
and are presented below.
National Educational Technology Goals
- All students and teachers will have access to information
technology in their classrooms, schools, communities and homes.
- All teachers will use technology effectively to help students
achieve high academic standards.
- All students will have technology and information literacy skills.
- Research and evaluation will improve the next generation
of technology applications for teaching and learning.
- Digital content and networked applications will transform
teaching and learning.
