Activity: Supporting the Vision

A vision statement guides and inspires. It should reflect a
group effort and provide the framework for more concrete goals and objectives
that directly influence teaching and learning activities in your school.
A vision of what is possiblewhat is desiredis the first step
in determining these goals. This activity is designed to help you define goals
from your vision, and to demonstrate the importance of clearly stating that vision. |
In this activity, you will need
After reading the Executive Summary, post a summary to the class
discussion area detailing how your one-paragraph vision statement does or does not support
the National Educational Technology Goals. You may want to refer to the Northside
scenario, as well. In your summary, try to explain how the vision statement does
or does not connect to each goal.
Things to think about. This is not the vision for your own school or district.
When you develop goals from your own school or district vision statement, you will
have the benefit of greater familiarity with current status as well as input from
other stakeholders. Your own vision statement will probably also include goals
specific to your own needs.
Follow-Up
Once you finish, read the vision statements and summaries posted by other members of
the class. Note the following points:
- How are other statements similar or different to yours?
- Do other students find support for the same goals?
- If not, are these differences justified?
